Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust (RWMT) is a charitable organisation operating in rural Rarieda Sub-County in Siaya County. The organisation began as a grass-root CBO in 2003 to assist orphaned children and youth with a focus on community empowerment and development.

Mission: To empower communities to create positive change especially for children and youth.

 


We are currently seeking to recruit a talented, progressive and team-oriented individual to fill the position of Whole Youth Development Officer.

1.                  PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Provide exposure and orientation to the RTRC technical trainees in order to create self-awareness, build confidence and support their skills, talents and attitudes/behavior as well as offer a safe space for them to learn and explore behavioral issues such as Gender Based Violence (GBV), communication and develop social skills amongst others.

 

2.                  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

R1. Enhance Youth Life Skills

T.1        Provide overall guidance and mentorship to RTRC students to nurture them in their career aspirations as well as to prevent drop outs from school.

T.2        Prepare the students who are about to complete their training for life after graduation.

T.3         Develop and deliver programs on life skills that include, but are not limited to, self-esteem, personal leadership, peer education, gender roles, gender- based violence, communication, HIV and STI’s and reproductive health education.

T.4        Facilitate the development of Student Clubs for extra-curricular activities. Assist students to set up and run these Clubs using principles of good governance.

T.5        Adapt suitable pre-packaged programs from other organizations/sectors to be used for training of RTRC students.  

T.6        Organize and facilitate learning events including provision of safe place to learn and explore sensitive issues including GBV to address harmful gender stereotypes and gender related issues as well as learn about acceptable/unacceptable behaviors.

T.7        Liaise with other appropriate Rafiki staff to provide mentorship and capacity building of staff and students on GBV and related life-skills.

T.8        Identify and build opportunities and spaces for youth to build their own programming and social networks.

T.9        Support the trainees’ personal development in various spheres so that they can progressively grow towards being responsible adults.

T.10     Strengthen the targeted youth’s resilience to enhance their ability to survive, adapt, and thrive in any environment be it rural, semi-rural, or an urban area.

T.11     Coordinate one-on-one and group counseling sessions for the RTRC students as needed.

T.12         Coordinates industrial attachment process for the students

 

R2.  Partnership, Networking and collaboration 

T.1        Ensure strong partnerships between RTRC and relevant outside agencies such as TVETA, KNEC, GIZ, Safaricom, Zizi afrique and other relevant Partners.

T.2        Represent the organization in any relevant stakeholder’s meetings whenever called to.

T.3        Work in collaboration with the RTRC Instructors and other staff members to develop and build linkages with like-minded institutions in the community and beyond.

T.4        In liaison with the Principal coordinate and develop the Alumni of RTRC

 

R3.  Internal Administration

T.1        Take part in student recruitment, interviews, development and discipline procedures of RTRC whenever called upon.

T.2         Provides overall guidance and direction for RTRC Boarding programs and activities

T.3        Provide delivery of all required reports in their agreed format and timeframes.

T.4        Identify and review the annual budget for Whole Youth Development with the Deputy Principal and Principal as requested and/or required.

T.5        Participate in concept paper and proposal development for donor funding whenever called upon.

T.6        Ensure inputs are requested from the inventory and distributed in line with RTRC budgets, policies and procedures. These inputs should be maintained in good condition.

T.7        Actively maintain the internal referral system to ensure students are provided with maximum support from the organization’s various expertise.

T.8        Ensure the integrity of information collected and presented is not compromised in any way whatsoever.

T.9        Maintain follow-up and feedback system to ensure efficient processes.

T.10     Ensures opening and closing of classrooms and workshops in the morning and evening.


R.4. Training

T.I.Guides development and integration of whole youth development coordination through life skills and extra curriculum instructor to develop holistically grounded students and graduates.

T.2.Teaches work readiness for youth to develop skills and competencies to get and keep a job

T.3. Coaches instructors in learner centered teaching approaches

T.4.Be a member of the disciplinary committee


R.5. Pastoral Care

T.1.Coordination of the pastoral care activities to ensure that the objectives of whole youth wellness is achieved

T.2.Organize brain storming sessions with parents and guardians/Care givers to ensure smooth coordination of pastoral care for students


R6. RWMT/RTRC Principles

T.1        Share and instill the values of RWMT/RTRC to the students as well as keep and maintain the name of RWMT/RTRC in high esteem and respect to the community.

T.2        Take part in all relevant internal and external activities as may be necessary e.g. the day of the African Child.


R7.       Other Duties and Responsibilities

T.1       Performs any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the management from time to time and which are related to the achievement of RWMT/RTRC mission and vision.

 

3.                  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job-training).

a)    Level of education: At least a Bachelor’s degree in Education or any Social Science disciplines focused on life skills development.

  1. Other Competencies

-        Good leadership and moral conduct.

-        Good personal interactive skills with young people and their parents/guardians by being a good listener, flexible outlook, reliable, kind and friendly in their disposition with sufficient sensitivity to boldly show tact and diplomacy.

-        Must have passion and commitment to work with youth

-        Must be fair and competent at identifying and responding to psychosocial needs of all students.

-        MUST be discreet and adhere to confidentiality

-        A sense of humor and an even temper dealing with all situations in a cooperative and sensitive manner are also fundamental to carrying out this job.

 

b.      Job experience: At least two (2) years’ experience in a similar position.
