Job Summary

Trust Orphanage is situated in Trans Nzoia - Kitale and is a Non Profit Organization. The preferred candidate should be a qualified social worker with experience in supervising an orphanage. The incumbent will oversee activities being done at the Orphanage and ensuring the general welfare and wellbeing of the Children at the facility.

Job Description/Requirements

Duties and responsibilities

·      CHILDREN: Ensuring the welfare and wellbeing of children at the facility is taken care of at all time. Organize and supervise extracurricular activities of all children at the facility with a view to form a well-balanced individual. Providing personal care and companionship to the children, including joining all meals. Accompany the children to the hospital and counselling sessions if necessary.

·      FACILITY: Office, kitchen and store management and maintenance. Ensuring general maintenance, hygiene and cleanliness of the facility together with the women on site. Make requisition forms for groceries, cleaning  and health care products – and keep the stock record up to date.

·      KEEP RECORDS AND REPORT WRITING: Maintain and keep accurate records weekly or monthly for all children under the home program. This includes progress reports, report cards, ID cards and birth certificates, case forms, welfare plans and academic plans to support the progress of the children, et cetera. Keep updated records of all children supported by Mount Elgon Trust: children on site at METCH, boarders, special needs, university students.

·      ACADEMICS: Visiting the teachers and children in school, including the special needs children and the boarding children each term – and keep track of their academic performance. Support the kids in their homework and make an academic plan if they are underperforming. Be a source of counsel to the children’s academic and career choices. Finding appropriate schools, vocational training and colleges for children under the home program in liaison with the guardians and teachers.

·      LEGALITY AND THE FACILITY: Prepare for cases and attend the children’s court in respect to each child’s committal. Liaising with child welfare officer in matters affecting their welfare. Represent the home in committees and meetings as assigned by the chief administrator or child welfare officer. Networking with other homes/organizations in matters affecting the home. Support and recommend for referrals when appropriate. Responding to cases of child abuse and neglect, in collaboration with the appropriate government organizations.

·      REUNIFICATION, FOLLOW UPS AND EXIT PLAN: Working with children and their families on a reunification plan in collaboration with child dependency courts. Make follow up visits to the children who are reunited. Home visits to special needs children, keep track of their condition, progress and health. Visit the children during long school holidays, if they stay with family.

·      MANAGEMENT, PLANNING AND BUDGETING: Annual planning for the children’s home, including school terms, holidays, birthdays and special event days, extra-curricular events and anything that can support their development. Plan monthly meetings with trust management and raise concerning issues as soon as possible.

·      STAFF OVERSIGHT AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION : Oversee all of the Orphanage staff,  take charge in performance evaluation and report back to the Trust Manager


Hygiene and Health and Safety

  • Ensure all the people who report to you adhere to the health and safety instructions.
  • Always wear PPE as provided by the company.
  • Report hazard or accidents to the company health and safety officer.
  • Take part in health and safety activities when required.

Qualifications, Experience and Competence:

  • Diploma/ Degree in any of the following fields: Social Sciences/Community Development qualification from a recognized institution,
  • Basic knowledge on MS Microsoft program, excel and email,
  • At least 2 years relevant work experience,
  • Demonstrated work performance and results,
  • Analytical, Interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Team player,


Working hours: The orphanage supervisor will  reside within the orphanage and will have an arrangements as follows: to be filled in by HR. no leave during school holidays as the children then need most support and home visits.
