Job Summary

We are looking for a social worker, who will be responsible for overseeing the wellbeing of our sponsored students in addition to collecting vital information on each child and communicating this to their relevant sponsor(s) and team members in Kenya, the UK, and the Netherlands.

Job Description/Requirements

The social worker will be required to report daily to our office in Solai, and sometimes, travel across Kenya to visit sponsored students in their schools and their homes.


Requirements / qualifications: 

  • Degree or diploma in social work, community development, counseling or any related field. 
  • Demonstrable experience of at least two years working with children or young adults.
  • IT skills — experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Gmail.
  • Native Kiswahili speaker. 
  • Fluent and excellent written and spoken English. 
  • Strong organization and project management skills. 


Desirable experience / skills:

  • Exceptional English language copywriting
  • Digital marketing/fundraising skills including using platforms (e.g MailChimp) to send emails, photography and basic image editing skills, and social media
  • Familiarity with the Kenya education systems (including primary and secondary, polytechnic, and university)
  • Experience working in a community, organization, or iNGO.

  • Proactive, and hardworking, completing work to set deadlines, communicating actively about the status of tasks and taking initiative to drive projects forward independently.

  • Ability to demonstrate good team work spirit


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and care for the wellbeing of each student currently in our sponsorship programme, providing oversight and guidance to improve students’ emotional, physical, and academic well-being.
  • Communicate with each of the students and their parents writing a detailed update on each of the families. This includes compiling updates on sponsored students regarding their academic progress, family well-being, personal matters etc. Task to be completed before contract completion.
  • File both physical and digital documents for all sponsored students in an organized manner
  • Assist in the organization and logistics of food distribution to the sponsored children’s families as well as the families assisted through our feeding programme.
  • Potentially organize termly mentoring or study sessions for sponsored students, held during the school holiday to provide counseling on various topics. 
  • Potentially lead the acquisition and distribution of other urgent educational needs for sponsored students.
  • All other relevant jobs deemed urgent by your supervisors.
