Job Description/Requirements
We are a faith-based charitable
organization supporting communities in the informal settlements of Mukuru,
South B, Nairobi. The Sisters of Mercy
founded MPC in 1985 in response to the community challenges in the Mukuru
Informal Settlements. It is situated at
the heart of the Industrial Area, along the New Likoni Road just 1 km off
Mombasa Road and borders the Mukuru Kayaba Informal Settlement.
MPC endeavors to empower the Mukuru community through education, health, welfare and social rehabilitation services.
ABOUT SOCIAL WELFARE AND SAFEGUARDING
Social welfare and safeguarding department cuts across other departments of MPC. The social workers and child protection officers are the key to keeping MPC focused on its goal of serving the most vulnerable at Mukuru slums. The program’s intervention in the community is facilitated through helping community members identify issues affecting them and finding the best ways to solve them
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field such as Social Work (BSW), Psychology or Sociology with three years of experience and above
Duties and responsibilities
1. Collecting of data on all activities in the station;
a. List of names and contacts of all CHV’s, chiefs, chairmen and village elders from your respective working stations.
b. List of pending cases in all departments and all pending projects.
c. List of all community cases as well as those from the respective departments brought in, update on their progress in handling the cases.
d. Follow up of abuse cases that are in court sessions as well as attending the court sessions whenever needed.
e. Reports on teenage pregnancy cases that happen in the schools as well as intervention given.
f. Prepare Mentorship talks and work plans for the future motivational talks and set them on your respective diaries and calendar.
g. Updates on the progress of all standard eight assessments and possible lists that are ready for vetting.
h. Updating and submission of reports on the use of the following books; goods received, delivery book and goods received file at the gate.
i. Networking and partnering with like-minded organizations, institutions and stakeholders for the betterment of our welfare services.
2. Conducting home visits where necessary regarding child protection and linking clients to counseling services in MPC.
3. Conduct regular home visits and follow-ups for your client’s this include follow up on absenteeism, sick cases, school dropout, needy cases ,learners involvement in drugs and substances abuse conflict with law and any other issue that affects the child both at school and at home.
4. Writing and regular update Profiles of all your clients all candidates, sponsored learners as well as any needy case within the institution.
5. Maintaining confidentiality of client information obtained during the course of duty.
6. Advocate for the rights of students/clients at all times.
7. Ensure that the organization’s child protection policy and code of conduct is adhered to by all stakeholders.
8. Ensure that the appropriate information of the child abuse is available at the referral and that the referral is confirmed in writing.
9. Assist in connecting and referring children with special needs to the institution suitable for them.
10. Assist in development of programs to enable students identify and deal personal behavior, social and scholastic problems that affect their performance and relationships.
11. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports of the activities within your working station
12. Work closely with sponsorship department in updating sponsorship profile, selection of sponsorship learners, assist or provide support in taking photos of sponsored learners, writing of letters to sponsors as well as any other duty related to the same activity.
13. Work closely with school administration to monitor academic progress and Identify and make recommendations and referral of all needy cases within your working station.
14. Organize advocacy meetings to train empower and create awareness of children rights to teachers, parents, learners community and other stakeholders.
15. Identifying the extremely needy cases in the community through referrals and subsequent home visits, distribution of food, and maintaining updated records.
16. Conduct home visits (for all Class Eight pupils in the four MPC sponsored schools) in order to identify needy cases (probable beneficiaries) for sponsorship program.
17. Refrain from any activities outside the project that would present a conflict of interest with your employment at Mukuru Promotion Centre.
18. Carry out duties and responsibilities in a manner that will enhance the reputation of Mukuru Promotion Centre
