Under the supervision of the Head of Finance(KE), you are expected to work with other team members to effectively and efficiently discharge your duties (as outlined below) and positively contribute towards the realization of the overall objectives of the organization. You are expected to be highly organized, results oriented, quick in execution and a stickler to time and details in order to satisfactorily deliver.
Your mission is to ensure continuous improvement of accounting and finance processes laid down. You will be expected to communicate well to all relevant internal and external stakeholders, while upholding the highest level of integrity to ensure that you contribute to the organization meeting its set objectives.
As the Senior Accountant you will be in charge of the following day-to-day finance operations:
Risk Management and Compliance:
● Ensure finance operations compliance with company policies and procedures.
● Support internal audits and implement recommendations from both internal and external auditors.
● Compliance with group/company policies on accounting reporting,reporting deadlines and general administration,
● Compliance with laws and regulations of the country including filing and remitting of taxes and statutory deductions timeously
Management Reporting:
● Monthly review of budget vs expenditure reports for all programs, ensuring that expenditure is within approved budgets and in compliance with donor rules & regulations.
● Prepare monthly performance reports for the Company and quarterly with accompanying analysis and commentary of the performance.
● In depth understanding of all drivers of the P&L and active tracking against the budget. Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
● Communicate with stakeholders (Marketing, Commercial, HR etc.) to understand and explain budget variances and financial trends and monitor spending on major projects.
Cashflow Management:
● Ensure day-to-day conduct and supervision of cash management activities adhere to internal controls, policies, and procedures.
● Communicate and liaise with all departments on their cash needs, ensuring a smooth flow of payments and ensure timely payments to internal and external partners following established mechanisms.
● At the beginning of every month, preparation of cash flow requirement report and the overall management of the cash in terms of preparing payment schedules, initiating payments in the bank and ethical management of petty cash.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
● Partner with respective function/region leads to budget, forecast and to understand and explain budget variances and financial trends and monitor spending on major projects
● Prepare Yearly forecasts for the company and with accompanying analysis and commentary.
Statutory Reporting:
● Support the external auditors during the statutory audit and ensure timely completion of the statutory audit process.
● Preparation of project financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, in line with program reporting templates and donor policies
Debt management and collection
● Working closely with the accountants to ensure that the debtors list is up to date, follow up and collect timely and where necessary, escalate problematic clients to the finance and sales managers.
Finance Operations:
● Oversee monthly tax filing and payment of VAT and Withholding tax.
● Maintenance of the Fixed Assets register and ensuring that the fixed assets file is up to date with relevant and accurate supporting documentation according to laid down procedure.
● working closely with the rest of the team to ensure that year end audit is done in a timely manner by providing all the information required by the auditors and any follow up queries are dealt with timely
● Support the finance manager and CEO with information to support decision making
● Perform any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager from time to time
Key Relationships
● Internal stakeholders: all Internal staff and Central finance team
● External stakeholders: customers, suppliers, bankers,payment merchants and External Auditors.
Key skills and Competencies Education Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, or a business-related field.
● Chartered Accountant and a Member of ICPAK, ACCA or similar association.
Experience
● At least 5-7 years' management-level experience in a fast-paced finance department with knowledge of finance processes in a Group/ (MNC) setting.
● In-depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Accounting Standards (IAS), and tax regulations.
● At least 2 years in accounting for impact projects
● Ability to lead & manage a team
● Advanced MS Excel skills & Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
● Strong Analytical ability in preparation and review of Financial statements
● Ability to identify, implement and maintain a sound system of internal control and risk management in relation to financial reporting and to report to those charged with governance.
● A forward-thinking, global outlook with the ability to deliver results under pressure.
● Ability to work autonomously, detail-oriented, efficient, and able to multitask, prioritize, and follow projects through to completion.
● Experience with debt collection a plus
● External audit experience is an added advantage.
