Location: Mogadishu, Somalia


The purpose of the position
Perform site-specific engineering analysis or evaluation of energy efficiency and solar projects involving residential, commercial, or industrial customers. Design solar domestic hot water and space heating systems for new and existing structures.


Responsibilities:

  • Create plans for solar energy system development, monitoring, and evaluation activities. Prepare detailed work plans.
  • Conduct on-site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings, and other).
  • Develop design specifications and functional requirements for residential, commercial, or industrial solar energy systems or components (determine design criteria or specifications).
  • Design or coordinate the design of photovoltaic (PV) or solar thermal systems, including system components, for residential and commercial buildings (design alternative energy systems).
  • Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar electric systems, using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Create graphical representations of energy production systems.
  • Create checklists for review or inspection of completed solar installation projects.
  • Inspect finished products to locate flaws.
  • Perform thermal, stress, or cost reduction analyses for solar systems (analyze green technology design requirements).
  • Analyze costs and benefits of proposed designs or projects.
  • Review specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve solar design objectives (recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance).
  • Conduct site assessments and make recommendations on solar energy feasibility.
  • Create technical drawings and design documents for solar energy systems.
  • Manage budget and purchase equipment/materials.
  • Obey and implement organizational policies and procedures.


Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy.
  • Renewable energy courses.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience as a Solar Engineer or similar job role in the electric industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualization electrical software.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Strong imagination and the ability to think and create in three dimensions.
  • Excellent technical and mathematical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Displaying leadership qualities.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work and make decisions under pressure.
  • Leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent English-speaking and writing skills, and the ability to write and deliver standard reports and other related documents with matching deadlines.


Personal characteristics:

  • Good interpersonal skills are essential for establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of professional and national backgrounds.
  • You must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well-organized, and capable of working under pressure.
