REPORTING LINE: SITE MANAGER


SUMMARY OF POSITION

 

Managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures and also responsible for managing costs relating to civil engineering projects by minimizing the costs of the project and enhance value for money.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

a.      Preparation of tender and contract documents, including bill of quantities

b.      Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project works

c.      Performing risk and value management and cost control

d.      Preparing and analyzing costing for tenders

e.      Providing advice on contractual claims

f.       Assisting the Contracts Engineer in preparation of estimates for tenders.

g.      Representing the company for site visits for tendering purpose (Pre tendering).

h.      Evaluation of quotations prior to tenders.

i.        Evaluation of prices / costs of new items under variations.

j.       Maintains record of calculations and back up for cost estimates.

k.      Ensures maintenance of Pre-tender files, Pre-qualification, tender and Contract Documents in the Archives.

l.        Adhere to all QSHE procedures, policies and instructions.

m.    Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations

n.      Ensure targeted profitability and growth of the Company.

o.      Enforce implementation of corporate strategic plans.

p.      Carries out regular supervisory visits to projects to monitor their execution.

q.      Reporting to Technical Manager on all Site activities and trends.

r.       Ensuring project planning, monitoring and evaluation Business Development Manager

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Progress against programme (days behind or ahead of schedule expressed as a %)
  • Percentage  of required reports  tendered with ratio
  • Sub-contractor satisfaction


KEY COMPETENCIES/SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM AT FULLY SATISFACTORY LEVEL, INDICATE AS DESIRED (D) OR ESSENTIAL (E)

 

·        Degree in Engineering or Quantity Surveying or Higher Diploma in Building Construction.

·        Qualification or training in project management

·        In-depth experience of Quantity Surveying work, associated procedures and practices, preferably in a large public/private organization

·        Budget handling skills; excellent IT and math skills

·        Organizational skills; communication and negotiating skills

·        Clear  understanding of Construction  Regulations and other legal guidelines

·        Proficiency in CAD application

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

 

Superior administration, time management, organizational, training and supervisory skills ( E), Use of business computer applications and data management ( E), Strong  communications skills ( written and verbal); and in a bi-lingual environment ( English and Kiswahili)- ( E), Superior analyzing, reporting, informing and negotiation skills ( E), Handles complexities, pressure, conflicts and problems solving skills ( E), able to draw and control budgets and schedule ( E), Supervisory and leadership skills (E)

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

 

·        Knowledge of construction methods and materials

·        Have good practical organization skills, planning of resources and programme scheduling.

·        In-depth knowledge of Standard Method of Measurement and Codes of Procedure for Quantity Surveying Practice

·        Be able to provide both summarized and detailed reports, on current activities.

·        IT Literate able to use Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project

·        In depth knowledge of contract administration, Design and Build, Intermediate and Minor Works
