About Mukuru Promotion Centre

Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC) is a faith-based charitable organization supporting communities in the informal settlements of Mukuru, South B, Nairobi.  The Sisters of Mercy founded MPC in 1985 in response to the community challenges in the Mukuru Informal Settlements.  It is situated at the heart of the Industrial Area, along the New Likoni Road just 1 km off Mombasa Road and borders the Mukuru Kayaba Informal Settlement.  

MPC endeavors to empower the Mukuru community through education, health, welfare and social rehabilitation services.  


About MARY IMMACULATE REHABILITATION CENTRE 

Mary Immaculate Rehabilitation Centre (MIRC) is a Street boys’ program situated in South B on Dunga/Mukenia Road. The Centre was opened in July 1997 to caters for children from the age of 6-17 years and offers non-formal education, Skills/vocational  for street boys only.


Qualifications and Experience

Requirements

    • Minimum of a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), or equivalent, and a mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). 

    • At least five (5) years relevant work experience

    • Must have a Valid TSC Number.

    • Deep understanding of the curriculum requirements and CBC\and able to mentor boys at the rehabilitation centre. 

    • Strong interpersonal skills.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Have interest to work with the poor


Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum:

    • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Kenyan curriculum for P1 students, covering subjects like literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies. 

    • Develop and implement lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and needs. 

    • Create and utilize a variety of instructional materials and strategies. 

    • Provide individualized and small group instruction to address specific student needs. 


Classroom Management:

    • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and conducive learning environment. 

    • Manage student behavior effectively, promoting positive interactions and discipline. 

    • Organize the classroom and resources to facilitate learning. 

    • Providing education and training to individuals with physical, emotional or cognitive disabilities.

    • Work with pupils and help them overcome their limitations and achieve their full potential.. 

    • Responsible for creating and implementing individualized education plans for each of their child


Assessment and Reporting:

    • Assess student progress regularly, using various methods (e.g., observation, formative assessments). 

    • Maintain accurate records of student performance and development. 

    • Communicate student progress to parents and school administration. 


Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and specialists to support student learning. 

    • Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates and feedback. 

    • Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills. 

    • Able to adapt to the unique needs of each children and stay current with the latest techniques and technologies to ensure that they are providing the best possible care. 

    • Must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work well in a team environment.


Safeguarding and Welfare:

    • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students. 

    • Adhere to school policies and procedures regarding child protection and safeguarding. 

    • Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as counselor, to ensure that the client's physical, emotional and cognitive needs are being met. 

    • Work with family members and caregivers to provide support and education


Administrative Duties:

    • Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, grading, and organizing educational resources. 

    • Prepare classroom materials and resources. 

    • To take part in extra-curriculum activities of the school, together with any other duties and responsibilities entrusted to him/her by the school management.

    • Mentor the boys and girls to become responsible persons in the community.

    • Any other responsibilities assigned by management in performance of duties.
