Optometrist

Locations: 1. Nairobi - 2, 2. Kakamega - 1

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Eye Examinations: Conduct comprehensive eye exams to assess vision and detect potential problems like refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism).

2. Diagnosis: Identify and diagnose eye diseases and conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

3. Vision Correction: Prescribe corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses) based on patients' visual needs.

4. Treating Eye Conditions: In some cases, optometrists may prescribe medications for eye infections, dry eyes, or allergies.

5. Pre- and Post-Surgical Care: Manage the care of patients before and after eye surgeries, such as LASIK or cataract surgery.

6. Patient Education: Provide guidance on maintaining eye health, preventing eye strain, and adopting good habits to preserve vision.

7. Referral to Specialists: Refer patients to ophthalmologists (eye surgeons) or other specialists if their condition requires advanced treatment or surgery.

Skills and requirements:

• Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution. A degree in optometry would be an added advantage
• Experience of not less than 2 years in a busy environment as an Optometrist
•  Decision-making skills. Optometrists must evaluate the results of diagnostic tests and decide on the best course of treatment for a patient.
• Able to explain diagnosis, treatment, and eye care in a way that patients can understand.
•   Adaptable and able to work well under pressure.
•   Detail oriented.
