Overview
An established mining operation is seeking a highly experienced Managing Director to lead and drive the strategic, operational, and financial performance of its narrow vein gold mining operations in Kenya. The successful candidate will be a proven mining executive with a strong engineering background, capable of delivering safe production growth, operational excellence, and sustainable value creation in a challenging mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for mining operations.
- Drive operational performance, production optimisation, and cost efficiency across the business.
- Ensure safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible mining practices.
- Lead executive management teams across mining, processing, engineering, finance, and support functions.
- Develop and execute short-, medium-, and long-term operational and growth strategies.
- Oversee budgeting, financial performance, capital allocation, and investment decisions.
- Optimise narrow vein underground gold mining methods and operational efficiencies.
- Manage stakeholder relations including government authorities, investors, communities, and partners.
- Lead organisational culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Identify expansion opportunities, operational improvements, and value-enhancing initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline (mandatory). An MBA would be a distinct advantage.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience at Executive or Senior Leadership level within the mining industry.
- Demonstrated experience in Narrow Vein Gold Mining operations.
- Proven track record managing underground mining operations and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong commercial, operational, and strategic management capability.
- Experience operating within emerging market or African mining jurisdictions is highly advantageous.
- Strong leadership presence with excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
