Job Summary
The Livelihoods Officer will have a significant role in the Business Solution Center (BSC) project, which aims to provide support to youth and women in establishing, enhancing, and expanding their businesses. The position involves providing sustainable farming and agri-business training and support to staff, women and youth. The officer will closely collaborate with different staff teams, community stakeholders, trainers, local organizations, and government agencies to create an environment conducive to ethical and sustainable economic growth for rural farmers.

Job Description/Requirements
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
R1. In-House Agri-business
T.1 Work collaboratively with Agro-demo farm staff to grow a team skilled in sustainable agriculture, business and market-oriented farming skills.
T.2 Conduct regular market surveys and farm business linkage stakeholder analysis to assess market demand and inform farm production, farm and post-harvest management and marketing.
T.3 Collaborate with the Farm Supervisor to develop and maintain farm planning and budget tools including target crop selection, farm produce calendar, material and labor input requirements, break evens to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of agricultural production and sales.
T.4 Collaborate with Finance team and Farm Supervisor in regular monthly P&L reviews to improve forecasting of production and revenue, assess expenses, and improve cash flow management.
R2. Community Engagement
T.1 Establish and maintain strong relationships with community members, entrepreneurs and local partners.
T.2 Improve farmers’ knowledge of what products are in high demand in different periods of the year and build their capacity to act and benefit from available market opportunities.
T.3 Share market information with farmers on market shareholders including farm input suppliers, traders, intermediaries, wholesalers and retailers (among others) to promote market-oriented production
T.4 Enhance organization and coordination of farmers’ linkages to market
R2 Training
T.1 Develop practical and experiential training courses and programs in sustainable agriculture for RTRC vocational training center students and the beneficiaries of the Business Solution Centre.
T.2 Develop an annual training calendar which highlights relevant season-specific 1-day and multi-day training courses for the community; and weekly training for RTRC students.
T.3 Provide hands on training directly and/or through approved trainers on sustainable farming practices, regenerative agriculture, crop management, and value addition.
T.4 Facilitate agri-business workshops, training and coaching sessions.
T.5 Facilitate examinations as needed .
R3. Internal Administration
T.1 Provide quality and timely delivery of the project’s reports, in their agreed format and deadlines.
T.2 Advise the Management of any key developments’ forums and any other networks which may serve to the advantage of RWMT and its ability to achieve its overall objectives.
T.3 Interpret and implement government policies that affect the agri-business activities of the Business Solution Center.
T.4 Review the projects operational budgets in conjunction with the projects team, Supervisor and relevant Finance and Administration staff.
T.5 Actively maintain the internal referral system to ensure beneficiaries are provided with maximum support and efficient services from the organization’s various expertise.
T.6 Ensure all inventory items issued to the department are maintained in good condition and are stored neatly and in a secured room.

Minimum BSC in Agricultural or Business.
b) Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications Agro-forestry, Organic farming, Regenerative Farming, Agri-business

- Business acumen
- Training skills
- Requires good interpersonal skills with ability to build personal relationships with beneficiaries, Local Community Members, students and staff.
- Must have developed good intercultural orientation and strong public relations skills.
- Should possess strong communication, negotiation and administration skills.
- Must have a valid Motorbike license and be able to ride the motorbike.
d) Job experience:
- At least three (3) years’ experience in Agribusiness.

Other information
The role is based in our main office in a rural area in the Western part of Kenya. We are about 15 km from the nearest town . Due to the nature of work working hours might extend on some days. We are looking for candidates who are excited about living and working in a rural setup to a minimum of 3-5 years. There is a six month probation period and we will agree on performance and learning objectives.
