Role and Responsibilities

Deliverables
- Draft, review, and negotiate project documents, focusing on PPAs and PPP documentation
- Ensure legal compliance across jurisdictions and advise on risk management and contractual strategies
- Collaborate closely with engineering and investment teams to support energy access initiatives
- Provide legal support for project financing, structuring, and contractual negotiations in emerging markets
Requirements
Experience required
- Minimum of five years' experience in energy projects, with a strong focus on PPAs, PPPs, and project finance
- Preferable experience with independent power producers (IPP); experience with EPC or O&M contractors is also valuable
- Background in law firm practice and/or in-house legal departments is desired
Technical requirements
- Skilled in drafting and negotiating project documents with a focus on compliance across multiple countries
- Proficient in structuring projects, assigning risks, and handling emerging market challenges
- Familiar with legal aspects of infrastructure projects, project finance, and off-take agreements
Soft skills
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and provide strategic legal advice
- High attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and managing risks
Other requirements
- Experience with energy access initiatives and a focus on emerging market challenges.
Working Arrangement
Location
- Preferred candidates located in Cape Town or Nairobi, with flexibility for candidates based elsewhere in Africa.
Operational requirements
- Capacity to work part-time initially, transitioning to a full-time commitment from January to May
Terms of Agreement
- Required start date: Mid-November
- Contracting period: Part-time (15 hours per week) from mid-November to December; full-time from January through May.
