Job Description

United States International University – Africa is located in the Kasarani area, off Thika Road in the suburb of Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi. The university is an independent, not-for-profit institution serving students representing 69 nationalities.

Summary:

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Chair of Department; the person will be expected to teach face-to-face classes in relevant roles as adverstised

Key Responsibilities/Tasks/Duties:

Teach at the undergraduate or graduate level in the specific areas of specialization as listed above. Use the Learning Management System to support learning Prepare, administer, and grade all assessments required Support and mentor students in their career endeavors. Participate in curriculum development activities to ensure that the programs are up-to-date and marketable. Participate in program assessment and reviews. Consult with students during scheduled office hours.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

To qualify for appointment an applicant must have:

Lecturers

PhD or equivalent degree qualification (or a Master’s degree qualification in special cases) in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university. A person with a Master’s degree (and without PhD) must have at least three years of teaching experience in the relevant field at the university level and be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree qualification. A minimum of 24 publication points as per the  CUE Standards & Guidelines,  of which at least sixteen should be refereed journal papers. Registered with the relevant professional body, where applicable.

Assistant Professor

A PhD. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited University. At least 3 years’ teaching/research experience at the university level as a Lecturer/Research Fellow. A minimum of thirty two publication points a Lecturer/Research Fellow as per the  CUE Standards & Guidelines, , of which at least twenty four should be from refereed scholarly journals. Supervised at least four postgraduate students to completion as Lecturer/Research Fellow; Been registered by the relevant professional body, where applicable.

Associate Professor

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited University. At least 3 years’ teaching/research experience at the university level as a Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor or Senior Research Fellow. At least forty-eight publication points as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow/
Assistant Professor as per the  CUE Standards & Guidelines, ,  of which thirty-two should be from referred scholarly journals. Supervised at least five postgraduate students to completion, including one doctoral student. Attracted research funds as a Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor or Senior Research Fellow.

Professor

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited University. At least 3 years’ teaching and research experience since being appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Associate Research Professor. At least sixty equivalent publication points as per the  CUE Standards & Guidelines, of which at least forty should be from referred scholarly journals since attaining Associate Professorship. Supervised at least six postgraduate students to completion, two of whom must be doctoral students. Attracted research funds since attaining the rank of Associate Professor.
