Our purpose

Our purpose is to bring basic products and services to those in underserved and low-income communities. We do this through working distributors who have an existing presence and relationship with the community. We provide these distributors with an intervention that solves a human need whilst generating profit for sustainability. 

This job description is related to our work bringing Dot Glasses to the Kakuma-Kalobeyei area and wider North Western Kenya.

Dot Glasses strives to make free vision testing and eyeglasses affordable and accessible to everyone.

Globally, 1 billion people need, yet cannot access, corrective eyeglasses; making it the largest unmet disability in the world. In Kenya, 7.5 million people need eyecare, yet only 1.6 million are able to visit an eyecare provider. This results in over 75% of cases of vision impairment being preventable.  This is made worse as even low-quality glasses are expensive and can cost more than 3,000 KES. 

This has a huge impact on people’s lives. Vision is our most dominant sense. Without glasses it is challenging to earn an income, learn or live a quality life. It also hinders any and all development agendas governments and agencies may have. A student without glasses is 3x more likely to fall behind! Simply wearing glasses improves incomes by 18%, means people do not rely on others for daily tasks - which reduces exposure to financial theft and fraud.

Dot Glasses’ solution is a revolutionary, award winning, design of eyeglasses frame and testing process that can be done without a vision care specialist. Dot Glasses distributors are able to provide eyeglasses for only 600-900 KES. The testing and assembly for each patient is done instantly within 5 minutes. 

Dot Glasses are currently sold around the world and this project aims to bring this impactful solution to the KK area and beyond.

What we are looking for from you

As the Kakuma-Turkana Territory Manager, you will:

  Onboard new distributors and sales agents primarily within the KK area 

  Support Dot Glasses expansion within Turkana County and surrounding counties

  Support existing distributors and agents to sell more glasses

  Increase our understanding of the community demand and barriers to purchase

  Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders that can result in increased sales 

  Ensure Dot Glasses is represented as all major meetings and events.

  Train and support your team through setting and monitoring KPIs, ensuring resources are available

  Supporting the general operations of the Turkana office which include managing local inventory and restocking

Role criteria:

  A minimum 5 years’ demonstrated experience in B2B2C and B2C sales

  An in-depth understanding of Kakuma host and refugee community cultures and barriers is highly desirable

  Product marketing experience is desirable

  Experience in problem solving in a variety of professional settings 

  Good with technology (computers, smart phones, MS Excel) 

  A good people motivator and highly persuasive

  Results oriented with a focus on achieving and exceeding sales targets

  Willing and able to travel regularly and be active on the ground
