i. Audit Key Responsibilities / Duties
a) Audit all processes to ensure adherence to approved policies and procedures.
b) Ensure all loan forms batched for disbursement are checked on daily basis.
c) Examine and verify all documents used in initial commitments, expenditure and in effecting payments of the society.
d) Ensure reimbursement schedules for petty cash, cash office and Mpesa floats are checked for accuracy and support.
e) Verify bank reconciliations before approval and coding instructions before they are released to the payroll centers.
f) Ensure all receipts are verified before posting to the members’ personal accounts.
g) Ensure regular Information Systems audit including computer system control, system security and data integrity.
h) Audit and give report on the internal control system of the society on a monthly basis.
i) Oversee regular spot checks on all books of accounts to ensure that they comply with the generally accepted accounting principles, the international accounting standards, the cooperative societies act, the Sacco act and any subsequent subsidiary legislation.
j) Develop, review, and implement adequate internal auditing processes and procedures as may be required by the society.
k) Investigate and make recommendations on errors, fraud, theft, losses or allegations should such come up.
l) Act as a consultant for the various departments on the risks associated with their processes and
give recommendation on the best action to take to mitigate the risk.
m) Examine and prepare detailed audit observation reports to the management Board in an accepted format on a quarterly basis.
ii. Risk Assurance Responsibilities
a) Perform risk assessment: Analyzing current risks and identifying potential risks that are affecting the Society.
b) Perform risk evaluation: Evaluating the company’s previous handling of risks, and comparing potential risks with criteria set out by the company such as costs and legal requirements
c) Risk reporting tailored to the relevant organs of the SACCO i.e Audit committee, Board of directors.
d) Report on the external risk posed by corporate governance to stakeholders
e) Develop and making recommendations on business continuity plans to limit risks
f) Conduct and report on policy and compliance audits, which include liaising with internal and external auditors
g) Review all the financial transactions of the Society and give an assurance to the relevant organs on monthly basis.
h) Review any new major contracts or internal business proposals
i) Build risk awareness amongst staff by providing support and training within the Society.
j) Cheerfully allow yourself to be assigned any other duty from time to time.
Qualifications (Academic)
• Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field
• CPA / CISA/ CIA and membership to a professional body
• Computer proficiency
Experience
• At least 2 years’ relevant experience.
