Job Summary

Finance Manager – (Micro-Finance Institution) This is a leadership position that will oversee the financial, risk and internal audit management functions to prepare and transition the programs into regulated entities. The position will work closely with senior management to enhance overall performance by preparing performance reports and analysis, and developing financial projections in addition to overseeing regional finances for the micro finance programs and affiliated entities. Reporting: She/he will report to the Chief Executive Officer and in charge of the Finance & Operations Department

Job Description/Requirements

Duties 

  • Responsible for the preparation of annual budgets and financial projections;
  • Drive performance improvement and ensures excellent execution of business initiatives by providing insight and advice in areas such as sales force effectiveness, customer and portfolio profitability, pricing strategy and cost control;
  • Directing the financial aspects of the micro-finance of its existing operations as well as in its growth strategy;
  • Provide support and analysis on a range of technical issues in connection with the financial metrics/analytics e.g. variance/trend analysis (actuals vs budget) makeup of specific costs etc;
  • Challenge plans to commit costs, identifying areas for cost efficiency and managing the speedy delivery of benefit;
  • Designing and developing a finance structure, enhance the organizations overall financial performance and ensuring finance function deliverables are accurate;
  • Provide input on budgeting and forecasting, challenge cost and revenue drivers within sales meetings and make suggestions to help improve the performance of the business;
  • Working closely with the senior management in strategic planning, development opportunities & risk management; provide qualitative & quantitative analyses & recommendations to support in decision making process & drive performance improvement;
  • To maintain a low risk level of cash difference by following diligently the process set by maintaining detailed accounting records of daily cash flow as well as  regular review of daily MIS reports, checking notes, denominations & security items in order to ensure accurate delivery of cash to customers;
  • Proactively challenge decisions/proposals using business and commercial knowledge and aid the business in understanding of key economic factors and cost drivers;
  • Facilitate external and internal audits and ensure effective implementation of audit recommendations and related disclosures;
  • Embed performance measurement of financial and non-financial indicators (KPIs), identifying opportunities for the development of management reports to meet business needs. Develop and report financial and other performance measures (metrics) required by the division;
  • Guide and help develop the financial business cases for all investment projects undertaken by the division and to guide in the monitoring of benefits by gathering data and calculating costs, benefits and returns.

 

 Qualifications 

  • Previous Experience in a Sacco or Micro-Finance is a plus.
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree, Finance or Accounting option; Must be a CPA (K) or ACCA (UK);
  • Proven experience in financial planning and budgeting;
  • Postgraduate degree in finance is added advantage;
  • Extensive experience in accounting, financial planning and controlling;
  • Forecast ability-able to envision changes to the business, think creatively;
  • ERP knowledge & experience is a must. Solid knowledge of Oracle and/ or SAP preferred;
  • Over 5 years’ experience, at least 3 years at a senior level, in a large Financial /construction Institution;
  • Good knowledge of the  finance policies, budgeting guidelines and cost management procedures as well as the Banking Act;
  • Vetted by the Central Bank of Kenya;
  • Informed on the business trends and practices and good understanding of the financial services industry.
