DESIGNATION : CONSULTANT- DENTIST

SUPERVISING : COHO / DENTIST ASSISTANT

REPORTING TO : MEDICAL DIRECTOR, HOSPITAL

Job Summary

Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimes. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, replace missed tooth to maintain esthetics and function of the dentition. The Dentist will meet with patients, assess their dental health, perform scheduled cleanings, handle complex procedures, such as root canals, extractions, and oral surgery, and work with other staff members, such as C.O.H.O, to provide clients with quality dental services. 

Duties & Responsibilities

• Meeting with patients to discuss and treat dental concerns, performing regular cleanings and other preventative procedures, and establish a plan for better dental hygiene.

• Performing dental procedures, such as extractions, root canals, and filling cavities.

• Correcting bite issues 

• Applying helpful agents to teeth, such as sealants or whiteners.

• Prescribing medications for dental problems, such as pain medications or antibiotics.

• Giving clients sedatives or anesthesia prior to administering treatments.

• Ordering diagnostic measures, such as x-rays, models, etc.

• Examine client’s oral cavity according to the existence of cavities or diseases of the oral mucosa and the gum.

• Use drills to preparate hard tissue to replace destroyed substance (fillings)

• Preparate teeth to adjust fixed dental replacements.

• Take impressions for fixed and removable replacements.

• Insert fixed and removable replacements.  

• Supervision of professional tooth cleaning/full mouth scaling.

• Treat periodontitis

• Managing and communicating with other staff members to provide care to patients.

• Instruct patients on how perform effective oral hygiene at home

• Increase number of clients through marketing services and creative practice options

• Examine and diagnose patients via routine check-ups and tools such as x-ray machines

• Consult with patients about dental options to discuss treatment of the mouth and teeth

• Keep accurate records of patient visits, diagnosis and treatment

• Implement clinical treatment of mouth and teeth conditions such as gum disease and tooth decay

• Managing and training other dental staff

• Plan and manage budgets of dental practice

• Order equipment and maintain equipment inventory as needed

• Recommend both prescription and non-prescription products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash, etc., for optimal care of patients' mouth and teeth

• Stay updated on patient care, new technology and new products that can improve or treat patient conditions or improve overall health

• Keep all certifications, registrations and insurance current in accordance with national laws and regulations

• Maintain sanitary environment for patient care and examination

• Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

• Supervise and care for hygiene in the dental unit

Requirements

• Post Graduate Degree in Dental Medicine or Dental Surgery

• MBChB or its equivalent holding a valid practicing license and retention certificate from The Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.

• Willingness to comply with all applicable laws regarding dental and health care.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to keep detailed records.

• Comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, tools, and diagnostics.

• Good management skills.

• Sound Clinical knowledge. 

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a busy hospital.
