As Community Outreach Programme Coordinator, you will play a pivotal part in driving and managing The Donkey Sanctuary’s community focused educational and awareness creation programme across the Lamu Archipelago. Working with a range of stakeholders (including the community, Lamu County Government, schools, NGOs and CBOs) you will lead the development of strong partnerships that comply with TDS policy and procedure and develop and implement tools that will aid in knowledge transfer and social and behaviour change to impact positively on donkey welfare.

About you:

Educated to degree level or above in an appropriate field (or exceptional experience in the field of community outreach programmes and community-focused Knowledge Transfer). 3 years’ Experience in community education and outreach programmes. Excellent communication skills and presentation skills; Experienced in working in a team and independently, and able to work with people at all levels. Fluency in English and Kiswahili (written and verbal). Strong IT skills. The legal right to live and work in Kenya.

About the role:

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –

Driving the creation of a clear strategy for the community-focused Education and Knowledge Transfer programme in Lamu. Providing overall supervision and strategic direction of community-based Education and Knowledge projects in Lamu. Bringing high-quality partnership approaches to all projects in the Education and Knowledge Transfer programme. Working closely with The Donkey Sanctuary’s Lamu staff to ensure community outreach projects meet stated objectives, are in line with organisational strategy and plans, meet the needs of the community and donkeys, and are implemented to the highest standards, on time and within budget. Managing and evaluate Lamu Education and Knowledge-Transfer programme activities and ensuring effective reporting on project and programme progress and learning. Providing inputs to tools and use of tools for community engagement and data collection to track key indicators of success, analysis, reporting of programme data, and determine the need for improvements.

The contract:

Based on Lamu Island – approximately 150 miles north of Mombasa, Kenya – this is a full-time, fixed term contract starting as soon as possible until 31 December 2029, working 37.5 hours per week. Due to the nature of this role, flexibility will be required for occasional evening and weekend work.
