JOB SUMMARY
About the Digital Transformation Center, KenyaThe Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) Kenya is a project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU). It was established to support the country’s digital transition towards a sustainable and human-centered digital economy and society. The DTC capitalizes on the existing digital and innovation ecosystem and seeks to strengthen it, while also looking at the wider societal impact of digital technologies. Through establishing strategic partnerships across a wide spectrum of public, private, and civil society actors, the DTC’s engagement encompasses several components and initiatives including:Data Governance - which works within the field of data protection, liaising with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) and other stakeholders, to foster better data protection practices within the country. Digital Government - which liaises closely with various stakeholders within nationaland county governments on various digitalisation topics including AI, emergingtech and Online GBVDigital Economy - which works on topics such as Data Markets, the Digital Economy Ecosystem, Twin Transition and Platform Economy. About Communications at DTC At DTC, the communications team works to support the project’s implementation activities such as workshops, events and launches to enable storytelling across various platforms. Specific communications tasks include:Writing and editing content for communication products such as factsheets, newsletter, website and social media platformsEvent support by preparing visibility and communication materialsDatabase management of key contacts for stakeholders and partners and mailing list categorizationContent Repository management of photos, videos and other content
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. ResponsibilitiesThe Intern is responsible for: Supporting the effective implementation of communications activities of the DTC Creating, editing and revising content on the DTC’s activities, e.g. for factsheets, the DTC website, identified social media platforms Supporting with procurement of communications-related services, such as photography, printing, merchandise etc. Supporting with the organisation and communication coverage of events B. TasksThe Intern will perform the following tasks in close collaboration with the DTC’s Communications Advisor. Support the implementation of the communications activities Supporting the advisor in preparing, implementing and following-up on the communications activitiesSupport the design and development of communications materials Event support Support in initiating and organising DTC events Support the communications coverage of relevant events Other duties/additional tasks Perform other duties and tasks in the context of communications as assigned Contribute actively to reports (regular and ad-hoc) and other M&E relevant documentsSupport the identification of synergies with other projects and activities under the DTC KenyaAnd other related tasks that may appear A. Required qualifications, competencies and experienceThe Intern should have the following qualifications, competencies and experiences: Qualifications Enrolled in or completed Bachelor’s degree programme in communications, PR, journalism, media, political communications, or another related field Professional experience Initial experience in communications / PR, ideally in the context of development cooperation and/or tech., digitalisation e.g. in the area of digital economy, digital government, data governance, emerging tech, cybersecurity or ICT policy e.g. through research projects, internships etc.Initial experience in project management (conceptualization, planning, coordination, steering, monitoring) is preferred but not mandatoryIntercultural competence working with local and international teamsProven skills and experience in networking and fostering partnerships Other knowledge, additional competences Excellent communication and presentation skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate in both written and spoken English at a high level. Excellent working knowledge of relevant IT software such as MS Office, Photoshop, etc.Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic team Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to cooperate effectively with colleagues and partnersSelf-starter, who works independently and has a flexible attitude but is a strong team player simultaneously C.
