Manager to support market expansion, merchant growth, customer acquisition, and regional
business performance across the country.
Job Summary
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving business
growth, expanding market presence, onboarding merchants, increasing customer acquisition, and identifying new business opportunities across assigned regions in Kenya.
The role requires a highly m commercial individual with strong field execution, relationship management, and market expansion capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Development & Regional Expansion
• Identify and develop new markets and growth opportunities across different counties
and towns in Kenya.
• Drive regional expansion strategies for phone financing and cash loan products.
• Conduct market visits to assess customer needs, market trends, and competitor activities.
• Establish and strengthen Buy Simu presence in assigned regions.
• Develop strategies to increase market penetration and product uptake.
2. Merchant Acquisition & Relationship Management
• Identify, recruit, and onboard new merchants and retail partners.
• Build and maintain strong business relationships with merchants and partners.
• Conduct merchant training on company products, processes, and compliance
requirements.
• Monitor merchant performance and support business growth initiatives.
• Ensure merchants adhere to company operational and documentation standards.
3. Business Development & Customer Acquisition
• Generate leads and drive customer onboarding activities.
• Promote company products and services to potential customers and business
partners.
• Develop initiatives aimed at increasing customer acquisition and retention.
• Support execution of promotional campaigns and regional activations.
• Identify strategic partnerships that support business growth.
4. Revenue Growth & Target Achievement
• Drive achievement of onboarding, merchant acquisition, and revenue targets.• Monitor regional performance and implement improvement strategies where necessary.
• Track and analyze business performance metrics.
• Prepare weekly and monthly regional performance reports.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and operational procedures.
5. Market Intelligence & Reporting
• Monitor competitor activities, pricing, promotions, and market trends.
• Provide regular market intelligence and business insights to management.
• Recommend innovative approaches to improve sales and operational efficiency.
• Prepare reports on market visits, business opportunities, challenges, and performance.
6. Collaboration & Operational Support
• Work closely with Operations, Customer Service, Sales, and Collections teams to ensure smooth customer experience.
• Support rollout of new products and initiatives in assigned regions.
• Participate in company marketing activations and regional events.
• Support implementation of company growth strategies.
Key Requirements
• Bachelors in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales or related field.
• Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Marketing, Strategic Management will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in business development, sales, market
expansion or merchant acquisition.
• Experience in fintech, lending, banking, telecommunications or mobile phone
industry is an added advantage.
• Proven track record in achieving sales and growth targets.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Strong understanding of regional market dynamics and customer engagement.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple regions effectively.
• Excellent reporting, planning, and organizational skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Kenya.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reporting tools.
