JOB DESCRIPTION: AVIATION TRAINING OFFICER, NAIROBI
Reporting to: GM – Training & Development
Role & Purpose Statement:
In this essential learning and development role, a Training Officer primarily focuses on managing the workforce's learning and professional growth within an organization. Also referred to as the learning and development officer, this position involves providing staff with the knowledge, practical skills, and motivation necessary to perform specific job-related tasks.
Training and Development officers play a vital role in enhancing employees’ skills over time, allowing them to realize their potential within the organization. Training officers are expected to adopt a strategic approach rather than a reactive one, evaluating the KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) present in the organization and identifying the necessary training for the development and retention of those skills.
Key Accountabilities:
§ Identifying training and development needs within the organization through job analysis, OJT (on-the-job training), some aspects of
performance management, and regular consultation with Managers, Lead instructors, Team-Leaders, Supervisors, and Human Resources.
§ Design and expand training and development programs based on the needs of the organization and individuals.
§ Work in a Team environment to produce training courses that are satisfactory to all relevant stakeholders in all departments such as
security agents, ramp agents, customer care, operational staff, etc.
§ Ensures that ALL members of staff, new and existing, including interns and attachees, within the entire organization, are trained in
relevant subject matters and mandatory core courses.
§ Produce and develop high-quality professional training material for both internal and external students; such training material includes
PowerPoint presentations, lesson plans, and assessments for each subject matter trained.
§ Manage the delivery and execution of each training including hosting the event, organizing catering for external/internal students,
conducting the training, invigilating the examinations, and collecting training feedback.
§ Upon completion of training, write a Training Report to the GM for each course taught, that includes amongst other criteria; attendance record, course objectives, pass/fail %, retakes, participant course evaluation, any major/minor constraints in course delivery and suggested changes to the curriculum to incorporate any relevant additional matters.
§ Sourcing; as the Training Officer for the subject matter, the officer should produce relevant sourcing material for the course subject matter that can be utilized by Sales & Marketing to promote the course to external candidates.
§ Mandatory subjects; as the Training Officer, it is your responsibility to ensure that employees receive statutory required training and also your responsibility to manage and ensure compliance to this subject matter (your KPIs will include some aspect of managing core subject expires).
§ Create training materials such as student reference material, course overview, and brief notes on the subject matter to ensure students
can follow the training and make notes on the material given for further reference.

Experience, Qualification & Skills:
§ Trainer certification required; could be subject matter-based or certified instructional techniques for trainers.
§ Diploma/Bachelor’s degree desirable, Airport Operations/Cargo Management or relevant industry experience with demonstrable knowledge of frontline service delivery and communication skills, highly recommended.
§ Must possess the following key certifications:
o Safety Management Systems – Train the Trainer.
o Quality Management System (QMS).
o Audit Techniques certification.
o Core Instructional Techniques (CIT).
§ A minimum of one year of practical classroom teaching experience.
§ Great leadership & interpersonal skills.
§ Effective written and spoken communication skills.
§ Great organizational and planning skills.
§ Effective time-management skills.
§ Must demonstrate experience in content creation, maintenance of training processes, and the successful development of ongoing training
and development programs.
§ Must also possess the use of Microsoft Office packages experience.
