Job descriptions & requirements

Job Purpose
To support the credit function by appraising loan applications, assessing member creditworthiness, and ensuring all loans are processed in compliance with SACCO policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

i. Receive and review loan applications for completeness and accuracy.
ii. Analyze member eligibility based on savings, income/repayment ability, and guarantor ship/collateral.
iii. Conduct credit risk assessments using internal policies and appraisal tools.
iv. Evaluate the KYC and 5Cs of the applicant.
v. Reference with Credit Reference Bureau to access the credit score.
vi. Verify supporting documents including payslips, bank statements, and identification.
vii. Assess and recommend loan applications in line with SACCO lending policies.
viii. Identify potential risks and propose mitigation measures.
ix. Ensure compliance with loan limits, terms, and conditions.
x. Prepare appraisal reports and recommendations for approval ensuring creation of a quality loan book at no or minimal Portfolio at Risk (PAR) performance.
xi. Ensure proper documentation and filing of all loan applications.
xii. Maintain accurate and up-to-date loan records in the system.
xiii. Ensure adherence to SACCO policies and procedures, Data Protection Regulation, CRB Regulations, AML (Anti-Money Laundering) requirements and other relevant regulations.
xiv. Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation.
xv. Respond to member inquiries regarding loan applications.
xvi. Provide guidance to members on loan requirements and processes.
xvii. Liaise with other departments staff, sales teams, and credit officers on loan processing.
xviii. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly loan appraisal reports.
xix. Track turnaround time (TAT) for loan processing as per the service charter.
xx. Highlight issues, delays, and risks to the supervisor.
xxi. Cheerfully allow yourself to be assigned any other duty from time to time.

Qualifications (Academic)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Cooperative Management/B. Com/ (Accounting / Finance) or Credit Management

Experience
• At least 1-year relevant experience

Skills
• Good customer care skills
• Attention to detail
• Good debt recovery skills
 • Knowledge in credit related laws
