Description

This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.

We are currently accepting applications for an Africa Diplomacy Lead, who has a good understanding of strategic communications so as to work with high level individuals on elevating Africa's story. Someone with good understanding and experience in international relations, climate diplomacy and geopolitics in Africa.

We are looking for a skillful master in foreign policy, someone who is well versed in Africa's political economy dynamics, the diverse geopolitical landscape at national, regional and continental levels with insights on how these interact with each other, and how they interface with geopolitical formations in other continents and the geopolitics of the global multilateral system.

Our successful candidate will be adept at relationship and partnership building. They will have gravitas and experience establishing and working within networks. They will also need to have excellent communication skills, with the ability to present clear ideas in various settings and understand how to use strategic communications tools to advance objectives.

You will report to the Network Director- Africa with a dotted line to Network Director Geopolitics and Diplomacy . You will be a key player within a team of regional colleagues, across country desks (Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal), and with colleagues across the globe.

How you'll contribute


  • Develop and lead in execution of a diplomacy and geopolitical strategy that contributes to our Africa vision, goals and the GSCC network strategy framework
  • Provide strategic and political insights with a good knowledge, resource pool and understanding of current evolving geopolitical trends, how they impact on climate diplomacy and related multilateral processes and implications for Africa
  • Contribute to building networks and convening power among key diverse multisectoral players in efforts to consolidate and galvanise Africa's agency, voice, leadership on climate and development within various geopolitical and diplomatic formations and spaces
  • Facilitate dialogue and foster consensus, collaboration, and agreement on sensitive issues among and between internal and external constituents
  • Inform impactful communications strategy, approach and plans around key regional and global geopolitical moments


Our ideal candidate


  • Is a thought leader who is a team player with a track record of providing good insights and proper judgment in decision making and problem solving
  • Has experience in foreign policy and international relations with gravitas and ability to engage and influence a wide spectrum of key players including leaders and high-level experts in government, industry, academic, champions, think tanks, media and civil society
  • Has a good understanding with keen interest and reading of Africa's political, social, economic, development and climate dynamics
  • Has knowledge and experience with the ability to navigate complex dynamics within various multilateral geopolitical processes
  • Has knowledge and experience with traditional and digital media, can develop and pitch stories in order to achieve objectives
  • Has prior work experience in a fast-paced remote work environment with a regional and global focus
  • Has experience in maximizing Google Workspace and other platforms in the management of deliverables
  • Conveys message with diplomacy and clarity using various communication platforms
  • Is fluent in English (required) and French (desirable)
  • Has strong personal networks and experience at international level would be a distinct advantage.
  • Has strong written and spoken English. Good knowledge of French language would be an advantage but not essential
