Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Job Purpose:
The Accountant will be responsible for managing the company’s financial operations, maintaining accurate accounting records, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and supporting management through timely financial reporting and analysis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Financial Reporting & Accounting
• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ledgers and journals.
• Prepare management books and monthly financial reports.
• Prepare financial statements including:
o Balance Sheets
o Profit & Loss Statements
o Trial Balances
o Cash Flow Reports
• Assist management in financial planning and decision-making through accurate reporting and analysis.
2. Daily Reconciliations & Transaction Monitoring
• Conduct daily reconciliation of transactions on Sasa Payand Open float systems.
• Investigate and resolve transaction discrepancies and variances.
• Prepare and submit daily reconciliation reports to management.
• Monitor daily financial transactions to ensure completeness and accuracy.
3. Merchant Payments & Expense Management
• Process merchant payments accurately and within agreed timelines.
• Manage company expenses and ensure proper documentation and approvals.
• Verify payment requests and ensure compliance with internal financial controls.
• Maintain accurate records of all payments and expenses.
4. eTIMS & Statutory Compliance
• Claim and verify eTIMS receipts in compliance with Kenya Revenue Authority requirements.
• Ensure proper filing and maintenance of tax-related documentation.
• Prepare and file statutory deductions including PAYE, VAT, NSSF, SHIF and NITA .
• Ensure compliance with Kenyan financial and tax regulations.
5. Accounts Payable & Receivable
• Manage accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Follow up on outstanding invoices and payments.
• Reconcile supplier and customer accounts regularly.
6. Budgeting & Financial Planning
• Assist in preparation and monitoring of company budgets.
• Track budget utilization and report variances.
• Support forecasting and financial planning processes.
7. Payroll Support
• Assist in payroll processing ensuring accuracy of salaries, deductions and statutory contributions.
• Maintain employee payroll records and ensure confidentiality.
8. General Administration
• Maintain proper filing systems for financial documents.
• Support management with financial insights and reports for decision-making.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA (K) or ACCA qualification
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar rolepreferably in a fitech industry
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Zoho Books, QuickBooks).
• Good understanding of Kenyan tax laws and statutory requirements.
