Job role:              Business Learning Manager

Joining Date:     August, 2015

Employment Status:       Full-time. 3-month trial period.

Employment status:       1-year full-time consultancy with view to permanent employment

Remuneration: Competitive salary commensurate with experience and stock options for the right candidate.

Location:             Nairobi, Kenya. Some travel within Africa required

AMI is expanding rapidly. We are looking for an ambitious and talented Business Learning Manager to adapt our world-class content to the meet the needs of our business clients, to lead execution and scale-up of our innovative blended learning approach, lead a team of expert facilitators and play a leading role in developing our next batch of exciting and high-quality AMI courses.

The Business Learning Manager will report to the Chief Learning Officer and Chief Product Officer, and will work closely with the business development team to support clients across East Africa and beyond. We work hard, innovate constantly and have fun in the process. We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in business consulting, training, management education or learning and development.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:                          

  • The Business Learning Manager must be a driven, creative, tech-savvy professional with great people skills, and the ability to analyse a business and understand its learning and development needs.
  • The successful candidate will play three key roles in joining the dots between our world-class content and business clients on the ground:
  • S/he will analyse new business clients to understand their learning and development needs, working with sales managers to design customized programmes and packages, and adapting content to meet specific needs where necessary.
  • The Business Learning Manager will also act as AMI’s master facilitator for in-person workshops, working with the Chief Learning Officer to identify and train new facilitators and to constantly improve and update blended learning processes.
  • The Business Learning manager will work with the content team to commission, scope and quality-assure new courses, tools and resources.
  • S/he will also be responsible for managing freelance facilitators and junior staff and will contribute to AMI’s strategic growth as a key leader.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Business analysis
    • Work with business development team to analyse the talent requirements and learning and development needs of new and potential business clients
    • Design programmes that leverage AMI’s world-class content and platform to meet the individual needs of business clients
    • Identify business challenges and turn them in to learning and development solutions
    • Support business development with proposals and closing of deals
    • Allocate resources to support company programmes, ensuring account managers are fully briefed and facilitators appropriately trained
    • Customise materials, including courses, resources, case studies and activities, as appropriate for key business clients.
    • Build engagement strategies and onboarding plans to build engagement with new clients
    • Periodic ‘analysis’ of progress of company programmes and strategies to improve metrics
  2. Blended learning
    • Work with the Chief Learning Officer to constantly develop and improve AMI’s blended learning strategy and processes, particularly for business clients
    • Create training manuals and other supporting documents for facilitators as AMI scales its blended learning offering
    • Work with Chief Learning Officer to identify, select and train new facilitators and to provide ongoing support and assessment for existing facilitators
    • Manage allocation of facilitators for AMI’s busy schedule of workshops, including liaison with product teams
    • Provide overall management and oversight of AMI facilitators
  3. Content development
    • Work with Chief Product Officer, Content Manager and content partners to commission and scope new courses
    • Provide support to Content Manager as needed for course development
    • Provide editing and quality assurance support for new courses
    • Close the feedback loop from clients to content to ensure our future course pipeline is relevant and useful

 

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Exceptional analytical skills - ability to understand and analyse a range of businesses, and identify learning and development needs
  • Ability to translate analysis into creative but replicable programme design
  • Ability to identify business challenges and turn them in to learning and development solutions
  • Ability to operate at a strategic level, both with clients companies and with big-picture thinking around building a scalable approach to learning and development in Africa
  • Outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal. Ability to create and customise content that is high-quality, practical and relevant
  • Outstanding training and facilitation skills. Ability and confidence to work with senior management teams, entry-level staff and small-scale entrepreneurs. Ability to train other facilitators
  • Ability to develop and implement replicable processes
  • Understanding of the management education, corporate training and/or enterprise development in East Africa
  • Ability to inspire, train and mentor a team of freelance facilitators and junior staff

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business consulting, company training, enterprise development or management education (essential)
  • Facilitation experience (essential)
  • Experience of leading a team (preferred)
  • Experience working in entrepreneurial or high-growth environment (essential)
  • Postgraduate degree or equivalent experience
